Oh!!! Fin-de-siécle Vienna. I wrote my dissertation on the Vienna Secession last year. Could you tell me where you found that book? I’ve had difficulty tracking down good books about the period. Beautiful cover to it. I was lead to read about the Ravenna mosaics during my work which may also interest you. You can really see a link to Klimt’s gold series in them.
Ben J Hamilton, I found it in a local store here in Gothenburg. See more info and ISBN here: http://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/6741444 Thanks for the tip about the Ravenna mosaics.
oh it looks like a great book elisabeth..i was in a gustav klimt/egon schiele exhibition in vienna last year..wow it was good..i love their way of writing in boxes sometimes...
Sakletarn, hittade den i den där lilla billiga och bra bokaffären i Haga som ligger på en tvärgata parallellt med gatan som Drömma ligger på, minns inte var den heter men där finns alltid bra böcker!
this is sooo funny, reading here about my town...unluckily the Wiener Werkstaette is pretty unknown here. Not as Klimt, but the Austrian government did some really bad treatment to the heirs of the paintings, I am sure you read about in the papers...once in Austria we say: Here you have to be dead or living abroad to be famous... But let me use this post as a little hint to the really amazing girls in this group of Wiener Werkstaette - they are always underestimated! Some of the textile design are still available at the austrian company Backhausen. Kindest regards from Vienna, Dolores
Wiener Werkstatte and Secession have always been strong creative influences in my work, it's so inspiring the 360º approach of creativity at that moment!
the 1900 vienna school is without a doubt my favorite era of art... egon schiele has stolen my heart. i've got to get that book, thanks so much for sharing!
