Otto still wants me to read for him at bedtime.
I enjoy it too. But I´m trying to get him to read more to him self.
He do it with resistance. Have to encourage him more.

(The other photo goes kind of well with the other, thats why it´s there.)

New post today on the Design*Sponge guest blog.

I do enjoy Alexandras Tumblr. Thanks for the tip Andy.

yes they go perfectly together, your two pictures, and yes, isn't it nice when boys continue to like their mom's reading, and yes we as mothers need to encourage them to read :):) Love this post, and the colours and the patterns.

I always liked my mum reading books to me cause it felt like we were experiencing the pictures together. But I liked reading by myself cause I could take as long as I liked on one page.

It is so cute! I love his wallpaper. I also enjoy reading with my daughter and will be sad when we don't anymore.

You know my mother in law is a reading 'expert' (has written books about it and is a college professor of teachers); apparently research indicates the recommendation is to read to kids until high school. Good going!

Kram

That Cath Kidston wallpaper is fabulous! It is lovely he still wants to read with you... I guess he should be practising more himself, but really, whichever way you give him a love of books is fine! Giving him the love of reading is a wonderful gift, how ever you do it ;) Love your crochet. K

I understand what you're saying but reading together seems also to be a great way to keep his interest in reading alive, don't you think?
.. and you can also read him more advanced books that way I guess. Enjoy!

My son, Daniel, is Otto's age and acts in the same way. I do love reading to him but dread that this insistence of him implies that he won't be a "reader" (he won't read independently, when an adult). Both myself and my husband are avid readers and has been such since childhood. We find it strange that he doesn't share our enthusiasm. "I don't want to read by myself", he says. "It's boring". "But you do like books" we remind him: "You love it when we read to you". But, to no avail. Hopefully it will come with time. I didn't know there were reading "experts". I wonder what one would say. Is there hope? :)

Sophie, you´re right reading together seems also should keep his reading interest alive. And I´m sure that he´s going to enjoy reading to him self further on more than today, when he has better reading abilitys. That´s the main trouble for him I think, that it´s not so easy. He´s impatient and not always ready to work on the reading part. But as said, it will probably come.

hadas, we are reading Narnia for the moment and he really enjoys it. So when being encouraging to read to him self he says (quite understandable) the same as your boy, "It's boring".

Hello rodeo wallpaper!

My kids (9 and 6 years old) love to be read to. I also have to encourage my older one to read more independently. At the same time, it is fun to read together, and I think that time will pass so quickly and they will be all grown up and independent soon enough.

Cheers.

I read to Enzo every night and usually love doing so, but every once in a while I'd like to just say goodnight, love you and be done with it :)
It looks like Otto has made his own calendar, I love it!
